Naidu to Review Veligonda Project
Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu is scheduled to visit Dornala mandal in Markapuram district on Saturday to review the progress of the Veligonda Project, one of the state's major irrigation initiatives. During the visit, the Chief Minister will inspect ongoing construction works and interact with project-affected families and local farmers.
A key highlight of the visit will be the distribution of ₹300 crore as compensation to 2,351 displaced families affected by the project. The government said the financial assistance is part of its commitment to ensure timely rehabilitation and fair compensation for those who lost land and livelihoods due to the project.
Over the past 24 months, the state government has released an additional ₹903 crore for compensation, rehabilitation, and resettlement activities, accelerating long-pending relief measures. Officials said works worth ₹759 crore have already been completed, bringing the Veligonda Project closer to completion.
The project is expected to provide irrigation and drinking water to thousands of families across drought-prone regions of Andhra Pradesh, significantly improving agricultural productivity and water security.
Farmers and displaced residents have expressed satisfaction over the government's renewed focus on completing the project and providing compensation. They hope the remaining works will be completed on schedule, enabling the project to deliver its long-awaited benefits to the region.
