Iran Threatens Hormuz Closure

Iran has warned that it will close the Strait of Hormuz if the United States launches another round of military strikes, according to reports from Iranian state media. The warning came after US President Donald Trump said Washington was prepared to carry out fresh attacks on Tehran and suggested that the US could target high-value assets, including Kharg Island. Trump also indicated that the United States could impose a naval blockade aimed only at Iran if necessary.

The renewed tensions have raised fears of a wider conflict in the Middle East. The Strait of Hormuz is one of the world's busiest oil shipping routes, and any disruption could severely impact global energy supplies. Following Iran's warning, global oil prices surged, with Brent crude rising nearly 8% and approaching the $80 per barrel mark.

Earlier, Trump declared that the ceasefire between the two countries was effectively over but said diplomatic talks could still continue. He accused Iran of repeatedly violating agreements and claimed Tehran had used the ceasefire period to carry out attacks. The escalating rhetoric has heightened concerns among global markets and world leaders, who fear that further military action could destabilise the region and trigger significant economic consequences.
