Hormuz Attack Sparks Global Concern

Fresh tensions have erupted in the Strait of Hormuz after the Singapore-flagged cargo ship Ever Lovely was struck by a projectile near the coast of Oman. The attack came just hours after Iran warned that vessels using routes not approved by Tehran would not be guaranteed safe passage. The ship sustained damage to its bridge, but no casualties were reported.

The incident has prompted the United Nations-backed International Maritime Organization (IMO) to temporarily suspend its commercial ship escort and evacuation initiative while reassessing maritime security in the region. Hundreds of vessels and thousands of seafarers remain affected as authorities review safety measures.

British maritime authorities confirmed the attack, while two senior U.S. officials attributed it to Iran. However, Iran has not officially claimed responsibility. The Strait of Hormuz remains one of the world's most strategic shipping routes, carrying a significant share of global oil exports. Any disruption in the waterway could affect energy supplies, shipping operations, and global markets.
