High Court Stays Welfare Schemes

The Telangana High Court has issued interim orders staying payments under the Shaadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi schemes until further orders.

The case relates to a petition filed by advocate Vijay Gopal, who questioned the legal validity of the two welfare schemes. The petitioner argued that the schemes lacked proper statutory backing.

After hearing the petition, the High Court directed the Telangana government to file its counter explaining its position. The court ordered that no payments should be made under Shaadi Mubarak and Kalyana Lakshmi until the next hearing. The matter has been posted for further hearing on September 9.

The schemes provide financial assistance to eligible families for marriage expenses. The court's latest order could affect beneficiaries awaiting financial assistance under the two programmes.
