Modi Begins Historic New Zealand Visit
Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Auckland on Friday, marking the final leg of his three-nation tour and becoming the first Indian Prime Minister to visit New Zealand in nearly four decades. The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, expanding economic cooperation, and enhancing strategic engagement between the two countries.
Before arriving in New Zealand, Modi concluded his visit to Australia, where he held high-level discussions with Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese. Thanking the Australian government and people for their warm hospitality, Modi said the visit further strengthened the India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and opened new opportunities in trade, technology, defence, security, and innovation.
Upon reaching Auckland, Modi was received by New Zealand Prime Minister Christopher Luxon. The Prime Minister said the historic visit would help deepen cooperation across trade, commerce, education, agriculture, and strategic sectors while reinforcing the long-standing friendship between the two nations.
Modi also appreciated the enthusiastic welcome from the Indian diaspora, describing it as a reflection of the enduring bond between India and overseas Indians. He is scheduled to interact with members of the Indian community during the visit.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged greetings from South Korean President Lee Jae-myung and praised the Naad Vocal Ensemble, highlighting music as a bridge that strengthens cultural ties and friendship between nations.
