WhatsApp Introduces Username Feature
Meta has announced a new Username feature for WhatsApp, aimed at enhancing user privacy. The feature will allow users to connect and chat using unique usernames instead of sharing their phone numbers. It is expected to roll out widely later this year, with an option for users to reserve their preferred usernames in advance.
The update is expected to benefit users who are reluctant to share their personal phone numbers for privacy and security reasons. According to WhatsApp, users will need to know a person's exact username to initiate a conversation for the first time. Existing privacy features, including Block and Silence Unknown Callers, will continue to remain available alongside the new username system, ensuring users retain control over their communication and privacy.
