PoK Protests Turn Deadly Again

Protests intensified across Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on Sunday as security forces clashed with demonstrators opposing the Pakistan government. According to reports, Pakistani police and Rangers opened fire on protesters in several areas, resulting in casualties and injuries.

The unrest was reported from Muzaffarabad and Dadyal, where thousands gathered demanding the release of detained leaders and the lifting of restrictions imposed by authorities. Sources said at least one person was killed and 14 others were injured during the firing. Police also used tear gas to disperse the crowds.

Reports indicate that Rangers opened fire near the Dadyal-Mirpur bridge, while similar clashes occurred in Muzaffarabad. Videos purportedly showing the confrontations have been circulating widely on social media, though independent verification remains limited.

The protests follow demonstrations led by the Joint Awami Action Committee (JAAC), which has been demanding restoration of communication services, uninterrupted supply of essential goods, and implementation of a 38-point agreement. Authorities have reportedly banned the organisation under anti-terrorism laws and detained around 600 leaders and activists, further escalating tensions in the region.
