International Yoga Day 2026 Observed Globally

International Yoga Day 2026 is being observed across the globe today, marking the 12th edition of the annual event dedicated to promoting yoga and holistic well-being. This year’s theme, “Yoga for Healthy Ageing,” highlights the role of yoga in maintaining physical fitness, mental wellness, and a healthy lifestyle for people of all ages.

In India, the Ministry of Culture has organized special programmes at 100 iconic locations, combining yoga sessions with celebrations of the nation’s rich cultural heritage. The initiative aims to encourage greater public participation and reinforce the importance of yoga in everyday life.

Ahead of the main event, the All India Institute of Ayurveda (AIIA) in New Delhi conducted a “Run for Yoga” and a Zumba session to promote fitness and active living. Officials emphasized that yoga should be practiced regularly as part of a healthy routine rather than being limited to a single-day observance.

AIIA Director Professor Pradeep Kumar Prajapati said regular yoga practice can help prevent and manage lifestyle-related and metabolic disorders. He encouraged individuals to adopt simple and sustainable yoga practices for long-term wellness.

The main national celebration will be held at Kolkata’s historic Red Road under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, while events will take place at nearly 2,500 locations worldwide.
