Assam Floods Inundate 631 Villages

Severe flooding triggered by continuous heavy rainfall has caused widespread devastation across Assam, with 631 villages submerged and nearly 4.45 lakh people affected, according to officials.

Rivers across the state have been flowing above the danger mark following incessant rains, leading to extensive flooding in several districts. The worst-hit areas include Sivasagar, Golaghat, Charaideo, Jorhat, Nagaon, and Kamrup, where floodwaters have inundated villages, damaged homes, and disrupted normal life.

Officials said Charaideo district has recorded the highest number of affected residents, with around 1.88 lakh people impacted. In Sivasagar district, nearly 1.44 lakh people have been displaced due to rising floodwaters and are facing severe hardships.

Authorities confirmed that the death toll from the floods has risen to 66, while rescue and relief operations are continuing in the affected regions. Disaster response teams have been deployed to evacuate stranded residents, provide food, drinking water, and medical assistance, and restore essential services.

The state administration has urged people living in low-lying and flood-prone areas to remain alert and follow official advisories as heavy rainfall is expected to continue in parts of Assam.
