Railways Procure Advanced ABB Engines
The Indian Railways has procured advanced propulsion systems from Switzerland-based ABB to enhance the performance and efficiency of its next-generation passenger trains.
According to officials, the newly acquired ABB technology will be used in Amrit Bharat and Vande Bharat Sleeper trains. The advanced engines and electrical systems are expected to improve operational efficiency, energy savings, reliability, and passenger comfort while supporting the modernization of India's railway network.
The move is part of the Railways' ongoing efforts to introduce world-class technology and strengthen long-distance rail connectivity with faster, safer, and more sustainable trains. The Vande Bharat Sleeper trains are designed to provide modern overnight travel, while Amrit Bharat trains aim to offer improved facilities for long-distance passengers at affordable fares.
Railway officials believe the adoption of advanced propulsion technology from ABB will help improve train performance, reduce maintenance requirements, and ensure smoother operations across the network.
The procurement reflects the Indian Railways' continued focus on technological innovation and infrastructure development as it expands its fleet of modern passenger trains across the country.
