NHRC Seeks Report On Lathicharge

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken serious note of the alleged police lathi-charge on students during a protest in Delhi and initiated suo motu proceedings into the incident.

Expressing concern over the reports, the Commission issued notices to the Delhi Police, directing them to submit a comprehensive report within two weeks. The NHRC has sought details of the circumstances that led to the use of force, the number of people affected, and the action taken following the incident.

The Commission has also directed the police to preserve and submit CCTV footage from the protest site to assist in the inquiry. The footage is expected to help determine the sequence of events and assess whether standard procedures were followed during the police action.

The NHRC stated that protecting the rights of citizens, including peaceful protesters, is of utmost importance and that the matter would be examined based on the report and available evidence.

The incident has sparked widespread debate, with various groups demanding accountability and transparency. Further action by the Commission will depend on the findings submitted by the Delhi Police.
