Vijay Faces Governor Roadblock
Actor-turned-politician Vijay has emerged as a major force in Tamil Nadu politics after his party, TVK, delivered a stunning performance in the Assembly elections. Though TVK became the single largest party with 108 seats, it fell short of the 118-seat majority mark needed to form the government. The Governor reportedly asked Vijay to submit proof of majority support before inviting him to form the government, triggering sharp political criticism.
Opposition leaders, political analysts, and Vijay supporters accused the Governor of adopting a selective approach under pressure from Bharatirya Janatha party leaders. Critics pointed to past examples in states like Goa, Maharashtra, Karnataka, and Manipur where Governors invited parties without full majorities to form governments and prove strength later through floor tests.
Political observers argue that constitutional conventions generally allow the single largest party or post-poll alliances to attempt government formation first. Social media users are now questioning why similar standards are not being applied to Vijay and TVK, intensifying debate over the Governor’s role and political neutrality in Tamil Nadu.
