NHRC Raps AP Police Over Death

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken serious note of the Sai Krishna custodial death case, describing it as a grave violation of the victim's fundamental right to life. The Commission issued notices to the Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police (DGP) and the Vijayawada Police Commissioner, seeking detailed reports on the incident.

The NHRC directed authorities to recover the deleted CCTV footage from the police station and ordered officials to trace and recover the victim's mortal remains. It also instructed the state police to ensure a fair and transparent investigation into the alleged custodial death.

The Commission's intervention comes amid growing public concern over the case and ongoing investigations by the Special Investigation Team (SIT). The NHRC emphasised the need to uphold human rights and ensure accountability in cases involving allegations of custodial violence.
