NMC Approves More MBBS Seats
The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved 100 additional MBBS seats for two government medical colleges in Andhra Pradesh for the 2026–27 academic year, strengthening the state's medical education capacity and creating more opportunities for aspiring doctors.
Health and Medical Education Minister Satya Kumar Yadav announced that the NMC has issued the Letter of Permission (LoP) to increase the intake by 75 seats at Government Medical College, Kadapa, and 25 seats at ACSR Government Medical College, Nellore.
Following the approval, the annual MBBS intake at Kadapa Government Medical College has increased from 175 to 250 seats, while ACSR Government Medical College in Nellore has expanded its intake from 175 to 200 seats.
The minister said the increase would benefit medical aspirants across the state while further strengthening Andhra Pradesh's healthcare education infrastructure. He added that the government's focus remains on improving the quality of medical education and expanding access to professional courses.
Director of Medical Education Dr. Vishnuvardhan attributed the approvals to continuous infrastructure development, recruitment of qualified faculty, and sustained efforts by both institutions to meet the standards prescribed by the National Medical Commission. He congratulated the principals, faculty members and staff of Kadapa and Nellore medical colleges for achieving the milestone and said the expansion would contribute to producing more skilled healthcare professionals for the state.
