Media Is the Bridge of Democracy: JAP President

Vijayawada, May 1, 2026: Emphasising the vital role of media in a democratic society, M.D.V.S.R. Punnam Raju, State President of the Journalists Association of Andhra Pradesh (JAP), said journalists act as a crucial link between the government and the public. By highlighting people’s issues and explaining welfare schemes, media ensures transparency and awareness, he noted.

He was addressing members at the unveiling of the JAP Journalists’ Diary held at the association’s office in Vijayawada. Several union leaders and members attended the event. Punnam Raju stated that JAP has been working for over three decades towards the welfare of journalists and continues to address their concerns.

Raising concern over increasing attacks on media personnel, he urged journalists to remain united and uphold professional integrity. He also demanded strict action against those responsible and called on the government to fulfil its promises for better working conditions and safety.

Leaders including D. Venkat Reddy, K. Anil Kumar Reddy, and others were present.

In a separate programme, JAP honoured retiring I&PR officials including L. Swarnalatha, B. Poornachandra Rao, and V. Haribabu for their dedicated service.
