Railways Hikes Fines For Violations
Indian Railways has announced a significant revision in penalties for various rule violations, with the updated regulations set to come into force from July 1. The move is aimed at improving passenger discipline, ensuring safety, and maintaining order across railway stations and trains.
Under the revised rules, passengers travelling without a valid ticket, using another person’s ticket, or carrying an invalid ticket will face a fine of ₹500. This marks a substantial increase from the existing penalty of ₹250. Railway authorities believe the higher fine will help curb ticketless travel and reduce revenue losses.
The new regulations also impose stricter penalties on unauthorized vendors operating inside trains and railway premises. Such violations can now attract fines of up to ₹2,000. Officials said the measure is intended to prevent inconvenience to passengers and ensure better regulation of commercial activities within railway property.
Begging on trains and at railway stations continues to be prohibited. Repeat offenders may face legal action, including imprisonment, under the revised provisions. Additionally, men found travelling in coaches reserved exclusively for women could be fined up to ₹2,500.
Railway officials have urged passengers to follow the rules and cooperate with authorities. The revised penalties are expected to promote safer, more organized, and passenger-friendly travel across the Indian Railways network.
