NO, NOT AT ALL FOR RAJAGOPAL REDDY
Hyderabad, Telangana — Speculation surrounding a possible cabinet expansion in Telangana has intensified in recent days, but senior Congress sources indicate that Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy is unlikely to be inducted into the state cabinet anytime soon. Despite internal political maneuvering and pressure tactics, party leadership is reportedly firm in its decision.
According to party insiders, Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, along with the Congress high command, is not inclined to offer a Ministerial berth to Rajagopal Reddy. This comes even as discussions of a cabinet reshuffle gain momentum, with indications that such a move could take place after the upcoming Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) elections.
Sources suggest that one of the key reasons behind this decision is the issue of regional and caste representation within the cabinet. Currently, leaders from Nalgonda district already hold significant positions, including Komatireddy Venkat Reddy, who is Rajagopal Reddy’s brother, as well as N. Uttam Kumar Reddy and Adluri Lakshman Kumar. Party leaders argue that accommodating another Minister from the same district could upset the delicate balance the leadership is trying to maintain.
Political observers note that Rajagopal Reddy has been actively asserting his influence within the party. There are claims that he recently held meetings with MLAs in a show of strength, which some interpret as an attempt to pressure the leadership. However, these efforts do not appear to have altered the stance of the Chief Minister or the central leadership.
Adding to the internal dynamics are perceptions about Rajagopal Reddy’s political ambitions. Some party insiders allege that he has long harbored aspirations for higher office, including the CM Chair. Associates suggest that political developments, particularly the rise of Revanth Reddy within the Congress, have curtailed these ambitions. Over time, however, Revanth Reddy is said to have worked strategically to bring both Rajagopal Reddy and his brother closer to the party fold.
Rajagopal Reddy’s earlier shift to the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and subsequent return to Congress also continues to influence perceptions within the party. While his re-entry was seen as beneficial for strengthening the Congress in Nalgonda district, it has not translated into immediate elevation to a cabinet position.
Meanwhile, some supporters of Rajagopal Reddy have expressed dissatisfaction, pointing to recent political appointments such as that of Vem Narendra Reddy to the Rajya Sabha. They question why similar opportunities are not being extended to their leader. However, party insiders maintain that such decisions are based on broader strategic considerations.
Despite the ongoing buzz about a cabinet reshuffle, Congress circles remain clear that Rajagopal Reddy’s inclusion is unlikely in the near term. Political analysts echo this sentiment, suggesting that the leadership is prioritizing stability and balance over accommodating individual demands.
As Telangana politics continues to evolve, all eyes remain on the Congress leadership and its next moves. For now, however, the message from within the party appears unequivocal — there is no cabinet berth for Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy.
