Godavari Waters Reach Sagar Ayacut

The Telangana government has started releasing Godavari waters through the Kaleshwaram project to benefit lands under the Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut. Officials switched on the motors of the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Scheme near B.G. Kothagudem in Bhadradri Kothagudem district and released Godavari water towards the Wyra Reservoir.

The move is aimed at improving irrigation facilities and providing water support to agricultural lands dependent on the Nagarjuna Sagar ayacut system. The Sitarama Lift Irrigation Scheme is considered a major project for transferring Godavari river water to drought-prone and farming areas of Telangana.

Officials said the water released through the lift system will help strengthen irrigation availability and support farmers during the cultivation season. The project is expected to improve water management and provide a reliable source for agricultural needs in the region.

The government has been focusing on expanding irrigation infrastructure through major lift irrigation projects to increase agricultural productivity and ensure better water availability across different districts.

The release of Godavari waters through the Sitarama Lift Irrigation Scheme marks another step towards utilizing river resources for irrigation development and supporting farming communities in Telangana.
