Key Rule Changes From July 1

Several important rule changes will come into effect across India from July 1, impacting Aadhaar services, passport fees, banking practices, and credit card users. The Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) will allow users to update their email address free of cost through the Aadhaar mobile app until December 31, 2026.

The Central Government will also revise passport charges, with increased fees for both normal and Tatkal passport services in India and overseas. Travellers planning to apply for passports may have to pay the revised charges from July 1 onward.

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) is introducing stricter guidelines to curb the mis-selling of financial products by banks. The new rules aim to prevent banks from forcing customers to purchase insurance policies, mutual funds, or other investment products that are not required, ensuring greater transparency and customer protection.

Meanwhile, State Bank of India (SBI) has announced changes to its credit card reward points programme. The revised reward structure will apply to eligible cardholders from July 1, affecting how customers earn and redeem reward points on selected transactions.

These changes are expected to impact millions of consumers and encourage greater transparency, digital convenience, and stronger consumer protection across multiple sectors.
