Vijayawada Police Seize Opium

Vijayawada police have seized 650 grams of opium (nallamandu) from a Rajasthan-based person in a major drug enforcement operation. The accused, identified as Mukesh, was reportedly caught by Patamata police while allegedly involved in the illegal sale of opium through Mangalgiri as a base.

According to police, Mukesh was allegedly selling the substance at around ₹2,600 per gram, with the value of one kilogram estimated to be more than ₹26 lakh. Officials said the accused had previously been externed from the city due to alleged involvement in similar activities.

Police reportedly took Mukesh into custody on Tuesday and kept the operation confidential initially. He is expected to be produced before the court on Wednesday for further legal proceedings.

Authorities are continuing their investigation to identify possible links in the drug supply network and determine whether others are involved in the illegal trade.

Police have been intensifying checks against narcotics-related activities in Vijayawada and surrounding areas, urging citizens to report information related to drug trafficking. Officials said strict action would be taken against those involved in the illegal sale and distribution of narcotic substances.
