Temple-VMC Bill Row Deepens

A dispute between the Kanaka Durga Temple administration and the Vijayawada Municipal Corporation over pending payments has intensified over bills linked to last year’s Bhavani Deeksha arrangements.

Temple sources alleged that VMC arranged milk and biscuit distribution for devotees during the Bhavani Deeksha period without submitting official note files or formal approval letters. The arrangements were reportedly made following directions to ensure devotees faced no inconvenience.

According to officials, the civic body later forwarded bills worth nearly ₹24 lakh directly to the temple administration for clearance. After learning the payments were still pending, the VMC Commissioner reportedly wrote to temple Executive Officer Sreenanayak on April 29 seeking release of funds.

Temple authorities clarified that the EO cannot independently approve payments and that all bills require proper documentation, quotations, and approval from the temple trust board before release of funds.

Officials said the delay occurred because required administrative procedures were not followed during the Bhavani Deeksha period. Vendors who supplied milk and biscuits are now reportedly pressuring VMC officials for payment clearance as the dispute continues unresolved.
