Satellite-Collared Tiger Moves Deeper into Andhra Forests

A satellite-collared tiger that had been roaming near the Yeleru Reservoir in Polavaram district has now moved into the dense Rajavommangi forest range in the Rampachodavaram division of Andhra Pradesh, forest officials confirmed.

The three-year-old male tiger was first captured in early February after straying into human habitations near Kurmapuram village, causing concern among locals. Following a health check at Indira Gandhi Zoological Park in Visakhapatnam, it was released into the Papikondalu National Park.

Forest authorities have been tracking the tiger’s movements using its satellite collar, field patrols, and pugmarks. The tiger reportedly hunted some cattle near forest fringes before venturing deeper into Rajavommangi. Officials noted that male tigers often travel extensively in search of new territories and prey, occasionally coming near human settlements.

Authorities stated that while they are prepared to intervene if the tiger poses a threat, it has so far continued moving through forest corridors without returning to populated areas. The Forest Department urged villagers near forests to remain vigilant, avoid approaching wildlife, and report any unusual sightings.

Continuous monitoring ensures the safety of both the tiger and local communities, highlighting the balance between wildlife conservation and human safety in the region.

This movement of the tiger underscores the importance of tracking and protecting apex predators while maintaining coexistence with surrounding communities.
