Akshaya Patra Foundation Distributes Fruits to School Children
In an effort to enhance the nutritional intake of school children, the Akshaya Patra Foundation has launched a special initiative to distribute fruits along with the Mid Day Meal. The Foundation has already been providing millet chikkis to students on additional days, and has now undertaken fruit distribution as a special activity.
It is noteworthy that on March 17, the Foundation achieved the remarkable milestone of serving 5 billion (500 crore) meals, and the President of India graced the occasion and appreciated the efforts of the organization. On this occasion, Andhra Pradesh Regional President, Shri Vamsidhara Dasa, stated that in addition to the government-provided menu, the Foundation has already been supplying millet chikkis to students for three days a week. To commemorate the 5 billion meals milestone, fruits are being distributed to students for four days from March 26 to March 31, 2026.
He further added that this initiative will significantly improve the nutritional intake of children and contribute to their overall health and development.
Under this program, approximately 1.35 lakh fruits will be distributed over four days to students studying in:
- 304 schools across Mangalagiri, Tenali, Thullur, Tadepalli, and Duggirala mandals (benefiting around 27,000 students), and
- 72 schools in Gudivada (benefiting around 5,000 students).
The Akshaya Patra Foundation remains committed to supporting child health and education, and will continue to undertake such impactful initiatives in the future.
