Pawan Kalyan Backs Artisan Empowerment
Pawan Kalyan has called for the protection of traditional handicrafts and greater support for artisans through technology, tourism, and global market access. Speaking at an interaction with artisans in Vijayawada, he said handicrafts are an integral part of India's cultural heritage and identity.
The Deputy Chief Minister highlighted Andhra Pradesh's rich artistic traditions, including Kondapalli toys, Etikoppaka toys, Kalamkari from Srikalahasti and Machilipatnam, Narsapur lace products, and the Bobbili Veena. He noted that over two lakh artisans in the state continue to preserve centuries-old craftsmanship.
Pawan Kalyan urged a shift from “Vocal for Local” to “Local to Global” by linking handicrafts with e-commerce platforms and international markets. He said storytelling around traditional art forms could increase their value and improve recognition for artisans worldwide.
He also proposed developing a dedicated Handicrafts Tourism Circuit and promoting sustainable livelihoods through waste-to-wealth initiatives. The minister announced special medical camps for artisans and assured support for their welfare, education, and skill development.
He reiterated the government's commitment to preserving Andhra Pradesh's traditional crafts while creating better economic opportunities for artisan communities.
