Naidu Launches Gold Project

Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Wednesday inaugurated the Jonnagiri Gold Mining Project in Kurnool district, describing it as the beginning of a “golden era” for Andhra Pradesh. He said the project would revive Rayalaseema’s historical identity as a mineral-rich region and suggested that the area be known as “Swarnagiri.”

The project, developed by Geo Mysore Services and Deccan Gold Mines with an investment of around ₹405 crore, is expected to produce 400 kilograms of gold annually in its initial phase. Production is planned to increase to 900 kilograms and later reach two tonnes per year. Naidu also laid the foundation stone for the project’s second expansion phase and flagged off vehicles carrying gold-bearing ore for processing.

During his visit, the Chief Minister inspected the mining site and a training centre where women and youth are being trained to operate heavy mining equipment. Addressing a public gathering, he said domestic gold production would help reduce dependence on imports and strengthen the state’s economy.

Naidu announced plans for a Jewellery Park in the region and said Jonnagiri would be developed as a model village. He highlighted ongoing industrial and infrastructure projects across Rayalaseema and reiterated the government’s commitment to generating employment and accelerating regional development through major investments and irrigation initiatives.
