Minister's RSS Remarks Spark Row

Madhya Pradesh Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya has sparked political debate with his remarks about the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), saying the organisation is currently facing a shortage of dedicated and sincere workers.

Speaking at an event in Bhopal, Vijayvargiya said that after the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) came to power, the number of opportunists claiming links with the RSS had increased significantly. He remarked that many individuals now associate themselves with the organisation for personal gain rather than ideological commitment.

The senior BJP leader recalled that the RSS once had committed volunteers who worked selflessly for the organisation and society. However, he expressed concern that the situation has changed over time, with several people, including some government officials, allegedly using their association with the RSS to advance their own interests.

His comments have drawn attention as they come from a senior BJP leader and minister in a state governed by the party. The remarks are expected to trigger political discussions over the functioning and image of the RSS, which is regarded as the ideological parent organisation of the BJP.

Neither the RSS nor the BJP has officially responded to Vijayvargiya's comments so far.
