Lokesh Meets Fisherfolk at Puligadda
Andhra Pradesh HRD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh interacted with fisherfolk families at Puligadda in Avanigadda mandal on Wednesday and assured them of continued government support to improve their livelihoods. As part of his visit, Lokesh travelled by boat in the Venipaya waters along with local fishermen and reviewed their working conditions.
During the interaction, fishermen explained the challenges they face, including rising operational costs, limited infrastructure and dependence on local markets. They informed the minister that small fishing boats cost around ₹2.5 lakh, while larger boats can cost up to ₹7.5 lakh. Average monthly earnings, they said, are around ₹20,000.
The fishermen appealed for an increase in diesel subsidy from the current ₹9 per litre to ₹25–₹30 per litre. They also sought assistance for boats, engines, fishing nets, landing centres, cold storage facilities and housing support for fishing communities.
Responding to their concerns, Lokesh assured them that the coalition government would examine their demands and extend all possible assistance. He recalled the support extended by fisherfolk during his Yuva Galam padayatra and said their welfare would remain a priority. Ministers and senior TDP leaders accompanied him during the visit.
