Judge Inspects Central Prison

Patna High Court Judge Justice G. Anupama Chakravarthy paid a surprise visit to Rajamahendravaram Central Prison on Thursday and reviewed inmate welfare, rehabilitation programmes, and prison management. Accompanied by her family members, the Judge was welcomed by prison officials, who briefed her on various developmental initiatives being implemented inside the prison.

During the inspection, Justice Chakravarthy examined inmate barracks, medical facilities, sanitation systems, food distribution arrangements, security measures, and vocational training centres. She also interacted with inmates to understand their grievances and reviewed welfare initiatives, including healthcare, education, skill development, and rehabilitation programmes.

Expressing satisfaction with the prison's overall management, the Judge observed that correctional institutions should serve as centres for personality development, mental transformation, and social rehabilitation rather than merely places of punishment. She encouraged inmates to make effective use of government-supported education and skill development opportunities to rebuild their lives and return to society as responsible citizens.

Justice Chakravarthy appreciated the prison's educational programmes, library facilities, vocational training, agricultural and horticultural activities, and skill development initiatives. She also praised cleanliness drives, greenery development, tree plantation, water conservation measures, and environmental protection efforts undertaken within the prison campus.

Prison Superintendent N. Rahul and other officials participated in the inspection programme.
