Hyderabad Divisions Set For Expansion

The Telangana government is preparing for a major restructuring of Hyderabad’s municipal divisions by increasing the number of wards under three corporations within the Outer Ring Road (ORR) limits. The total number of divisions is expected to rise from around 300 to nearly 400.

Under the proposed plan, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) divisions may increase from the existing 150 to 200. The proposed Cyberabad Municipal Corporation and Malkajgiri Municipal Corporation are also expected to see an increase in divisions from 76 and 74 to 100 each.

The move comes as part of the government’s plan to improve administration in the rapidly expanding Hyderabad metropolitan region. Earlier, the GHMC was divided into three separate corporations with around 300 divisions. Now, officials are working on adding another 100 divisions.

The government is also considering conducting separate elections for the three corporations. GHMC elections along with other pending municipal polls are likely to be held in November, followed by elections for Cyberabad and Malkajgiri corporations.

After the expansion, GHMC will have 200 divisions, and the party winning at least 101 divisions will be in a position to secure the mayor’s post.
