Former Sainik Welfare Chief Dies

T. Swarna Kumari, the first Director of the Andhra Pradesh Sainik Welfare Department after the state's bifurcation, passed away in Vijayawada on Sunday. She was 66.

A respected and dedicated administrator, Swarna Kumari played a crucial role in strengthening the Sainik Welfare Department in Andhra Pradesh during the post-bifurcation period. After the division of the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh, she headed the Andhra Pradesh wing of the department and served as its Head of Department (HoD) for nearly a decade. During her tenure, she worked tirelessly for the welfare of ex-servicemen, war veterans, and their families, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and beneficiaries alike.

Following her retirement, Swarna Kumari settled in Guntupalli near Vijayawada. According to family members, she had been facing health-related issues for some time and was undergoing treatment locally before her demise.

She is survived by her husband, a retired bank officer, along with a son and a daughter. Her passing has saddened members of the ex-servicemen community and former colleagues, who remembered her commitment to public service and welfare initiatives. Family members said that the last rites will be conducted on Monday.
