Contaminated Food Sickens 11 in West Godavari
Eleven people were hospitalised after consuming contaminated food in Pippra village of Ganapavaram mandal in West Godavari on Tuesday. The victims reportedly ate bajjis prepared using spoiled maida flour suspected to be fungus-infected after being stored for nearly a year in aqua farm workers’ sheds.
According to officials, the food was prepared at home and shared among family members and neighbours. Authorities clarified that the food was not sold commercially. Soon after consuming the snacks, several people complained of severe illness and were rushed to nearby hospitals for treatment.
Five victims are undergoing treatment at Imperial Hospital, while another five are admitted to Bhimavaram Hospital. A two-year-old child is being treated at Varma Hospital. Doctors said some patients remain in critical condition and are under close observation.
District Collector Chadalavada Nagarani visited the hospitals and directed officials to ensure proper medical care for the victims. Health authorities have launched an inquiry into the incident to determine the exact cause of the food poisoning
