APSRTC Orders Mandatory Health Checks for Drivers & Conductors

Vijayawada, 01 May 2026: The APSRTC has initiated statewide mandatory health examinations for its employees, with annual medical check-ups for all staff and half-yearly screenings for drivers and conductors. The decision follows concern over nearly 300 employee deaths in the past year, prompting urgent intervention by Vice Chairman and Managing Director N. Bala Subramanyam, IPS. The initiative aims to strengthen preventive healthcare and ensure the safety of employees who work long hours in demanding conditions.

The programme commenced today across all districts through RTC hospitals and dispensaries. Senior officials including Executive Directors, FA & CAO, and medical officers addressed employees during the awareness programme held at RTC House, Vijayawada. They highlighted the rise in lifestyle-related illnesses such as cardiac issues among field staff and stressed early detection through regular screening.

Officials also encouraged employees to adopt insurance coverage, including SBI health and life insurance policies, and maintain workplace hygiene under the Swachh Andhra initiative. The management stated that employee health is essential for improving service quality and operational efficiency. The initiative is expected to enhance safety, reduce health risks, and build a healthier workforce across APSRTC operations statewide implementation continues from today onwards.
