AP Strengthens Secondary Healthcare Services

The Andhra Pradesh government is upgrading secondary healthcare services by introducing advanced diagnostic and surgical facilities in district, area, community, and maternal and child health hospitals to improve access to quality treatment.

Over the past two years, medical equipment worth ₹72.81 crore has been installed, including CT scanners, teleradiology systems, TIFFA scanners, colour Doppler ultrasound machines, laparoscopic equipment, baby warmers, and phototherapy units. The initiative aims to reduce referrals to tertiary hospitals by enabling better treatment closer to patients' homes.

Diagnostic services have also expanded significantly, with 4.48 crore laboratory tests conducted between April 2025 and March 2026, compared to 3.73 crore in the previous year. Teleradiology services are being extended across the state, allowing specialists to review X-rays remotely and provide faster reports.

The government is also planning to install CT scanners in district hospitals at Tenali, Atmakur, Hindupur, and Tanuku through a public-private partnership model. Additionally, 13 public health laboratories are being established under the National Health Mission.

Health Minister Satya Kumar Yadav said improved infrastructure is reducing referral cases, ensuring timely treatment, and lowering healthcare costs for families. The government has also introduced laparoscopic surgery equipment, hearing assessment facilities, and mortuary freezer chambers to further strengthen secondary healthcare across Andhra Pradesh.
