Uproar in Tamil Nadu Assembly

The Tamil Nadu Assembly witnessed heated scenes on Sunday as members of the DMK and AIADMK raised objections over Karnataka’s stance on the proposed Mekedatu Dam project. Opposition members demanded a discussion on the issue, expressing concerns over its potential impact on Tamil Nadu’s water interests.

The situation escalated after the Speaker reportedly declined permission for a discussion on the Mekedatu project. AIADMK members accused the Speaker of acting in a partisan manner and raised slogans inside the House. Following the protest, AIADMK legislators staged a walkout and continued their demonstration within the Assembly premises.

The Mekedatu Dam issue remains a sensitive matter between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, with political parties in Tamil Nadu demanding protection of the state's water rights.
