Tension Prevails in Anantapur

Tension gripped Anantapur district on Friday after YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders protested against police restrictions imposed in Tadipatri. Former MLA Kethireddy Peddareddy staged a sit-in on the road, accusing the police of preventing party leaders and supporters from carrying out their proposed programme.

Former MLAs Ananta Venkatarami Reddy and Visweswara Reddy attempted to travel to Tadipatri to extend support to Peddareddy. However, police intercepted their vehicles and stopped them from proceeding, citing law and order concerns. In protest, both leaders staged a sit-in on Court Road, condemning the police action.

Police deployed heavy security in and around the protest sites and erected barricades to prevent YSRCP leaders and party workers from moving towards Tadipatri. The restrictions led to heated arguments between police personnel and party supporters, further escalating tensions in the area.

Authorities maintained that the preventive measures were necessary to avoid any disturbance to public order. Senior police officials monitored the situation closely, while additional personnel were stationed at key locations to prevent any untoward incidents.

Despite the restrictions, YSRCP leaders continued to criticise the police action, alleging that they were being denied their democratic right to protest. The situation remained tense, with security forces on high alert throughout the district.
