Massive Fire Guts 40 Shops
A major fire broke out at the Draksharamam market in Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Konaseema district, reducing more than 40 shops to ashes and causing extensive property damage. The blaze spread rapidly through the market, triggering panic among shopkeepers and local residents.
Fire and Emergency Services personnel rushed to the spot and launched an intensive firefighting operation. After several hours of effort, firefighters succeeded in bringing the flames under control, preventing the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
According to preliminary findings, the fire is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit. Officials said a detailed investigation has been initiated to determine the exact cause of the incident and assess the full extent of the damage.
Authorities estimate the property loss at around ₹2 crore. Fortunately, no casualties or injuries were reported in the incident. Shop owners, however, suffered heavy financial losses as goods, furniture, and business equipment stored inside the shops were completely destroyed.
Revenue and police officials visited the site to assess the damage and gather information from affected traders. Local authorities have assured all possible assistance to the victims, while officials have appealed to commercial establishments to follow electrical safety measures to prevent similar incidents in the future.
