Fake Cotton Seed Racket Busted
A fake seed racket was busted in Turkapally of Yadadri Bhuvanagiri district, with police seizing counterfeit cotton seeds worth nearly ₹10 lakh. The accused were allegedly transporting banned BT-3 cotton seeds illegally from Guntur to Siddipet for sale to unsuspecting farmers.
During the operation, police recovered 70 kg of fake BT-3 seed packets and 80 kg of cotton seeds. Investigators said the racket was attempting to deceive farmers by marketing the seeds as high-yield products. Two accused were arrested, while another suspect is currently absconding.
Officials warned that the use of counterfeit and unapproved seeds could result in severe crop losses, causing significant financial hardship to farmers. Authorities noted that such illegal activities not only violate agricultural regulations but also threaten the livelihoods of farming communities.
Police have launched a detailed investigation to identify the wider network involved in the production and distribution of fake seeds. Efforts are underway to trace the absconding suspect and determine whether similar consignments have already reached the market.
Authorities urged farmers to purchase seeds only from authorized dealers and verify certification details before buying. Strict action will be taken against those involved in activities that jeopardize farmers’ interests and agricultural productivity.
