GSTAT Fines AMB Cinemas, Five Others
Hyderabad: The Goods and Services Tax Appellate Tribunal (GSTAT) has imposed penalties on six cinema theatres, including Mahesh Babu-owned AMB Cinemas, for allegedly increasing the gross ticket price despite the Centre reducing GST on movie tickets. According to the order, the theatres collected the same amount from moviegoers instead of passing on the tax benefit.
AMB Cinemas has been directed to deposit ₹35 lakh immediately out of a total liability of ₹1.7 crore. Other theatres penalised include Jyothi Theatre (₹19.8 lakh), Bhramaramba Cinemas (₹11.8 lakh), Kumar 70MM (₹2.5 lakh), ASR Cinemas (₹9.6 lakh) and Viswanath 70MM (₹9 lakh). The tribunal also ordered the theatres to pay 18% interest along with the amounts to the Consumer Welfare Fund.
