Is the replacement of Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Chairman B.R. Naidu imminent? This is currently a hot topic of discussion both within the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) and TTD circles. B.R. Naidu, head of TV5 News channel, assumed charge as TTD Chairman on November 5, 2024. It is widely known that he was appointed due to his strong support for TDP during the five years of YSRCP rule. The government had issued orders granting him a two-year tenure. However, political circles are now abuzz with claims that he may be removed within just one and a half years.
It is being widely discussed that Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has been unhappy with B.R. Naidu’s performance from the beginning. Soon after Naidu took charge, the Vaikuntha Ekadashi festival witnessed a stampede in Tirupati during ticket distribution, leading to the death of 8 devotees and injuries to around 20 others. At the time, YSRCP leaders strongly criticized the negligence of the board members. Since then, TTD has been repeatedly targeted by YSRCP leaders, and B.R. Naidu reportedly failed to respond effectively.
The controversy escalated further when YSRCP leaders released videos on social media alleging B.R. Naidu’s close association with a woman. The issue created a major uproar. Initially, Naidu claimed the videos were AI-generated and warned of legal action against those responsible. Later, he stated that the woman’s family had known his family for 30 years and that nothing inappropriate had occurred in the video. These conflicting statements intensified the controversy.
TDP leaders say Chandrababu Naidu is displeased with B.R. Naidu’s conduct. Reports suggest that during his recent Tirumala visit, the Chief Minister maintained distance from Naidu. B.R. Naidu was also absent from a review meeting held by the CM in Tirumala, reinforcing speculation about his removal. Even during the Sri Kodandarama Swamy Kalyanotsavam at Ontimitta on April 1, the CM reportedly kept him at arm’s length. This has strengthened the belief that Naidu’s replacement is imminent.
According to reports, senior TDP leader and former minister Kimidi Kala Venkata Rao is likely to be appointed as the new TTD Chairman. Kala Venkata Rao has served as a state party president, Rajya Sabha member, and minister, and also has prior experience as TTD Chairman. Known as a senior BC leader from North Andhra with a clean image, he maintains good relations across party lines. It is believed that Chandrababu sees him as a suitable choice for the role, and party leaders feel his appointment would be smooth and without controversy.
