Activists Flag Poor SC/ST Act Enforcement In Kurnool

Concerns are rising over the weak implementation of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act in the undivided Kurnool district, where more than 50 murders have reportedly occurred in the last four years. Activists allege that negligence by police and revenue officials has led to poor investigations and delayed justice for Dalit victims.

Speaking to True Point News, APDS Founder President Kommu Palem Srinivas said the law remains ineffective due to poor enforcement and low conviction rates. He claimed that only a handful of cases result in convictions, exposing serious loopholes in investigation and prosecution.

Srinivas also criticised officials for failing to follow mandatory procedures, including timely field visits, proper documentation, and submission of detailed reports. He alleged that compensation and welfare benefits meant for victims’ families are often delayed or denied.

Referring to repeated incidents in Kurnool and Nandyal districts, he demanded accountability from authorities and urged the visiting SC/ST Commission Chairman to ensure strict implementation of the law and justice for victims.
