Red Fort Closed Until August

The Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) has announced the temporary closure of Delhi's historic Red Fort to visitors from July 16 to August 15 in view of security arrangements for the 2026 Independence Day celebrations.

According to the ASI, the month-long closure is part of heightened security measures ahead of the national event, which is held annually at the Red Fort. During this period, only individuals with valid entry passes and official authorization will be permitted inside the monument.

The Red Fort serves as the main venue for India's Independence Day celebrations every year. On August 15, the Prime Minister hoists the National Flag from the fort's ramparts and addresses the nation, making it one of the country's most significant ceremonial events.

Authorities said the monument will be reopened to tourists after the completion of the Independence Day celebrations and the withdrawal of security arrangements. Visitors planning trips to the Red Fort have been advised to schedule their visits after August 15.

The temporary closure is a routine security measure implemented each year to facilitate preparations and ensure the smooth conduct of the national celebrations in the capital.
