Anitha Announces Social Media Measures
Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha has announced that the state government is planning stricter measures to address inappropriate comments and online trolling on social media platforms.
Speaking on the issue, the Home Minister said that abusive posts and trolling have caused severe mental distress to many individuals. She emphasized the need for stronger safeguards to promote responsible use of social media and curb online harassment.
Anitha stated that the government is constituting a Group of Ministers (GoM) and a special task force to examine the issue and recommend appropriate measures. She said the panel will explore the possibility of introducing stricter legal provisions and other regulatory mechanisms to tackle online abuse effectively.
The minister also revealed that the government is considering the introduction of age-related restrictions for social media usage as part of its broader strategy to ensure safer digital platforms, particularly for younger users.
According to Anitha, the proposed initiatives aim to create a more accountable online environment while balancing public safety and responsible digital communication. The government is expected to study the recommendations of the GoM and task force before taking further policy or legislative decisions on regulating social media misuse.
