Woman Assault Case Sparks Action
A woman was allegedly assaulted and stripped during a dispute in Krishna Babu Colony under the Nagarampalem Police Station limits in Guntur, prompting police action and intervention by the Andhra Pradesh Women's Commission.
According to preliminary reports, the incident stemmed from a dispute between two groups over a residential borewell. The confrontation reportedly escalated, during which a group, including transgender persons who had allegedly arrived in support of one side, assaulted the woman. Videos of the incident, captured on CCTV cameras, have since circulated widely on social media.
Police have launched an investigation based on the CCTV footage and have detained several suspects for questioning. Authorities said further action will be taken after the investigation is completed.
The incident also drew a political response after allegations emerged that a local TDP leader was involved. Guntur West MLA Galla Madhavi announced that the individual had been suspended from the party and that his party membership had been cancelled.
The Andhra Pradesh Women's Commission took suo motu note of the incident. Chairperson Dr. Rayapati Shailaja said the commission was treating the matter seriously and directed officials to ensure justice for the victim. She also called for strict legal action against all those found responsible.
