Betting Apps Controversy Rocks Telugu Film Industry

Legal Action and Future Implications

The police have ramped up their crackdown on betting apps, extending their investigation to major film stars. Hyderabad and Cyberabad commissionerates have already registered cases against 36 individuals, including YouTubers and celebrities, and issued notices to them. Officials have made it clear that no one will be spared, regardless of their stature.

The focus has now shifted to top Tollywood stars such as Nandamuri Balakrishna, Gopichand, and Prabhas after multiple complaints alleged that they had promoted betting apps on social media platforms like X. Based on gathered evidence, the police are considering filing cases against them. Despite celebrities questioning why they are being targeted for past endorsements, officials remain firm in their stance, determined to ensure accountability.

Several YouTubers who received police notices have already appeared for questioning at the Panjagutta Police Station. Meanwhile, actors like Daggubati Rana and Prakash Raj have issued public apologies for their involvement. Many other celebrities are reportedly contemplating similar actions.

However, YouTubers Harsha Sai and Imran are suspected to be on the run, prompting the formation of special teams to track them down. Officials have warned that ignoring the notices will lead to severe legal consequences. With stars like Balakrishna, Prabhas, and Gopichand under investigation, Tollywood is in turmoil, and anxiety is growing among other leading actors.

The betting apps scandal has become a major talking point in the Telugu film industry. Reports suggest that some individuals are attempting to negotiate settlements with the police. The controversy escalated further when former police commissioner Sajjanar’s tweet on the matter went viral, drawing nationwide attention to the ongoing investigation.

Previously, audiences were engaged in watching reels, but now, they are closely following updates on the betting app controversy. Speculation is rife that producer Dil Raju, who previously intervened during the Pushpa 2 stampede incident, may once again step in—this time to mediate with the government on behalf of the celebrities involved in the scandal.

Police are actively recording statements from those under investigation and consulting legal experts on how to proceed. Authorities are meticulously reviewing crime sections and are determined to take strict action against all those involved.

For those who promoted betting apps for financial gain, this year has proven to be full of legal troubles. With Ugadi approaching, it remains to be seen if their fortunes will turn around or if they will face harsher consequences in the coming days.
