India's First Lacrosse Academy Inaugurated in Hyderabad
The Garuda Lacrosse Academy, India’s first lacrosse academy, was inaugurated by SATS Chairman Shiv Sena Reddy on RCI Road in Badangpet, Hyderabad.
Speaking at the event, Shiv Sena Reddy emphasized the state government's commitment to promoting sports in Telangana. He stated, “The state government will give high priority to the development of sports, and we are working to bring new kinds of sports to light to encourage our players. I am extremely happy that Hyderabad is home to India’s first Olympic Games Lacrosse Academy, which will greatly benefit the players of Telangana.”
The event also saw the recognition of Telangana athlete Anudeep Reddy, who captained the Indian national lacrosse team during the World Lacrosse Championship in Japan. He was honored for his exceptional contribution to the sport.
Ponna Shabarish, the Technical Director of the Telangana Lacrosse Association, highlighted the academy's goal of preparing players with an eye on the 2028 Olympic Games. He shared, “This academy is the first of its kind in India and has been established right here in Telangana. Lacrosse, a traditional American sport, blends the elements of basketball, soccer, and hockey. It requires not only physical agility and teamwork but also sharp mental skills. Players move at lightning speed, making it both a physical and mental exercise.”
