Mumbai Indians lose season opener for the 13th straight time
Chennai bowlers Noor Ahmed and Khaleel Ahmed dismantle Mumbai batting
Rachin Ravindra and Ruturaj Gaikwad shine in Chennai’s four-wicket victory
Mumbai Indians have set an unwanted record in the IPL, losing their opening match for the 13th consecutive season. In their first game of the tournament, Mumbai suffered a four-wicket defeat against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai last night.
Batting first, Mumbai managed to post a modest total of 155 runs for the loss of 9 wickets in their allotted 20 overs. Chennai’s bowlers, especially Khaleel Ahmed and Noor Ahmed, maintained pressure by consistently taking wickets. Their disciplined bowling restricted Mumbai from building any strong partnerships.
Chasing a target of 156 runs, Chennai Super Kings secured victory with 5 balls to spare, despite losing six wickets. Rachin Ravindra played a crucial innings, scoring 65 runs, while captain Ruturaj Gaikwad contributed 53 runs to steer Chennai to their first win of the season.
Mumbai had hoped to break their long-standing opening match losing streak, but their struggles in both batting and bowling led to another disappointing start to their IPL campaign.
