Rahul Gandhi vows to fight for BC reservations in Parliament
A group of Telangana Congress leaders, including TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud, ministers Ponnam Prabhakar, Konda Surekha, government whip Adi Srinivas, and MLA Beerla Ilayya, met Congress leaders Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi in Parliament on Thursday. They discussed the recent BC reservation dharna at Jantar Mantar and the ongoing cabinet expansion efforts.
During the meeting, Sonia Gandhi directed the leaders to focus on public welfare and assured them of continued support from the Congress party. She emphasized that BC reservations are essential for uplifting the weaker sections and urged the leaders to work diligently to achieve this goal.
TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud revealed that the Telangana Congress is seeking two additional ministerial posts for BCs, acknowledging that the final decision will be made by the AICC. He noted that the Congress party has consistently supported the BCs and has passed a bill for 42 percent reservations in Telangana.
Rahul Gandhi assured the leaders that he would continue to raise the issue of BC reservations in Parliament and encouraged them to communicate the central government’s stance to the public. The Congress leaders also criticized the BJP for allegedly obstructing Muslim reservations, highlighting that similar reservations were in place in Gujarat during Prime Minister Modi’s tenure as Chief Minister.
TPCC chief Mahesh Kumar Goud expressed dissatisfaction over the absence of BJP leaders at the Jantar Mantar dharna. He urged the central government to approve the 42 percent reservation bill and called upon Telangana BJP leaders to convince Prime Minister Modi to include the reservations in the 9th schedule.
The Congress party has reiterated its commitment to ensuring reservations for BCs and expressed optimism that their demands will be addressed in due course.
