Rahul Gandhi Questions Govt on US Tariffs, Chinese Encroachment in Lok Sabha
LoP raises concerns over US tariffs and Chinese encroachment
Claims 26% tariff will harm auto and pharmaceutical industries
Criticizes government’s handling of foreign policy
Leader of the Opposition in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, on Thursday, questioned the government over the alleged encroachment of Indian territory by China and the newly imposed 26% reciprocal tariff by the US on Indian exports. He demanded answers on how the government plans to address these issues.
Accusing the government of compromising national interests, Gandhi stated that the tariff imposed by the US would severely impact India’s auto and pharmaceutical industries. “They bow before every foreigner,” he remarked, recalling former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi’s firm stance on foreign policy.
Highlighting China’s alleged occupation of 4,000 sq km of Indian territory, Gandhi criticized the government’s handling of the situation. “I was shocked to see our Foreign Secretary cutting a cake with the Chinese Ambassador. Was it a celebration of our 20 soldiers’ supreme sacrifice?” he questioned.
Gandhi stressed that normalcy with China should only follow the restoration of the occupied land. He also alleged that the Prime Minister and President had communicated with China, citing statements from the Chinese Ambassador.
Expressing concern over India’s foreign policy, Gandhi stated, “You have given China 4,000 sq km of land. On the other side, our ally US suddenly decides to impose 26% tariff, which is going to devastate our economy.”
