CPM leaders protest against land grabbing attempts

57-acre Disneyland site misused for illegal activities

Coalition government urged to fulfill housing promises

CPM state secretary Ch. Babu Rao and other leaders visited the Disneyland site in Ajit Singh Nagar, Vijayawada, demanding that 110 acres of government land be allocated for housing the poor instead of being handed over to private entities. They inspected the 57-acre Disneyland site, 25 acres of railway land, and 25 acres of a garbage dumping site on Wednesday.

The leaders expressed concern over the Disneyland site turning into a hub for marijuana, blade batches, and illegal activities, with liquor bottles scattered throughout the area. Locals complained that the land had become a health hazard due to sewage ponds, mosquito breeding, and illegal garbage dumping.

Speaking on the occasion, Babu Rao and CPM leader B. Ramana Rao criticized the previous YSRCP government for failing to deliver on its promise of housing plots, alleging that the allocated lands in Jagananna Colonies were in remote and uninhabitable areas. They accused officials of spending crores to purchase land while ignoring nearby government lands.

The leaders further alleged that a unilateral resolution was passed to allocate Disneyland land to private companies for slaughterhouses while ignoring public welfare needs. They reminded the coalition government of its promise to give two cents of land to the poor in livable areas but noted that nine months have passed with no progress.

CPM demanded that the coalition government repeal resolutions for private projects and immediately allocate the 110 acres for housing for the poor, ensuring proper development and preventing land misuse. They also urged the government to allocate ₹5 lakh per beneficiary for house construction.

The leaders warned that if there was no government response, they would mobilize local people and launch an agitation to protect government land and fight for the poor’s housing rights.
