New DGP for AP:AP Govt Recommends Five IPS Officers

The Andhra Pradesh government is in the process of appointing a new Director General of Police (DGP) for the state. As part of the selection procedure, the names of five senior IPS officers have been sent to the Central government for consideration. The officers in the race include Madireddy Pratap, Harish Kumar Gupta, Rajendra Nath Reddy, Subrahmanyam, and Kumar Vishwajit.

According to sources, the Center will shortlist three names from the five recommendations and forward them to the state government. Currently, Harish Kumar Gupta is serving as the in-charge DGP with full additional responsibilities. Reports indicate that the state government is inclined to continue with him as the permanent DGP.

The Chandrababu Naidu-led government is keen on selecting the new police chief through the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) process, ensuring a fixed tenure of two years. Given his performance, Harish Kumar Gupta is expected to be among the final three names shortlisted by the Center. Government sources suggest that he is the frontrunner and is likely to be appointed as the full-time DGP for Andhra Pradesh.
